Interview Questions for Administrative Jobs
One of the best ways to get an administrative job is to answer interview questions quickly. Paying attention to interview questions and answering them correctly can help you get a job.
Unfortunately many of us simply don’t know how to respond to interview questions. Taking some time to learn what interview questions are and how to answer them is vital for job seekers.
You should be able to learn how to respond to most job interview questions. You should also be on the look out for trick questions. Some of these are legitimate and others are psychological tests designed to test your personality.
How to Respond to Some Common Job Interview Questions
- “Tell us a little about yourself?” The best way to respond to this is to use it as an opportunity to emphasize your strengths and expertise. For example say how good you are at a position. Try to avoid talking about family, hobbies, etc.
- “What are your strengths?” Emphasize your skills and abilities that are directly related to the job itself. Try to avoid generalized answers about creativity etc.
- “Why did you apply for this position?” Be honest but try to say something you like about the position or the organization.
- “How do you establish a working relationship with new people?” Say that you are open minded and will try to work with them.
- “Tell me about a challenging situation you have faced.” Before you go on the interview think about a particular challenge you faced and solved. A good suggestion here, sit down and write out a short description of a challenge you have faced and overcome. This will help you develop a coherent answer. Don’t make anything up.
Illegal Interview Questions
It is against the law for interviewers to ask about certain things. If an interviewer asks these questions they will be violating the law:
- Your race or ethnic origin.
- Your age
- Your marital status
- Your religion
- The year you were born
- The year you graduated high school or college
- Your political beliefs
Questions involving these are illegal. Do not answer them.
Behavioral Questions
Many employers are increasingly asking behavior oriented questions. These are designed to spot dishonesty or psychological behaviors. Be on the look out for these questions but don’t pay too much attention.
Some examples of behavioral questions:
- Any question about stealing or dishonesty.
- Any question about drugs or drug use.
- Any question about behavior towards another employer.
- Questions about following orders
- Questions about conformity.
Some companies use these to make hiring decisions but others don’t. Simply answer honestly and use common sense.
Direct Questions
If an interviewer comes out and asks if you would take the job say yes. Believe it or many people loose jobs everyday because they don’t say whether they would take the job or not.
Answer direct questions about former employment, your commute etc. as honestly and directly as possible. Indirect answers will make it look as if you are lying or covering something up.
