Administration is one of the fastest growing job categories out there today. There are thousands of jobs that can fall into the category called administrative so there are administrative positions that almost anybody can perform.

Persons who are searching for work should definitely consider administrative jobs because of the wide variety of them available. Another advantage to seeking administrative jobs is that administrative positions are available in both the private and public sectors. It is now expected that most administrative support personnel be capable of operating personal computers. They are also expected to be familiar with basic software such as Microsoft Office and to know how to type.

Job Prospects and Future Trends

Administrative support is definitely a growth industry in the United States. Large numbers of new positions are opening up especially in government and the healthcare sector. A growing trend is to outsource such positions or convert them to work from home positions.

Salary

Outside the government sector salaries for administrative support positions in the United States are traditionally quite low. These positions often lack status because they have historically been filled by women.

In recent years salaries have been rising especially in the government sector. The number of men in such positions has also been rising in recent years. The biggest demand for administrative support is coming from government, especially the federal government which is traditionally high paying.

Executive Positions

The number of administration positions in both government and the private sector that requires advanced administrative degrees such as MBAs (Master of Business Administration) and MPAs (Master of Public Administration) has been growing in recent years. The fastest growth is in government where there is a strong demand for MPAs.

There is also a growing demand for MBAs who have an emphasis on healthcare. Executive administrative positions are usually quite well paid with average salaries in certain specialties often rising to $100,000 a year.
